#9 Matt McDevitt - Director of Data Engineering

In this episode we speak to Matt McDevitt, Director of Data Engineering at Think Big Analytics. We talk about:

Matt is one of Think Big’s earliest team members playing many roles to help incubate and build Think Big over its 8-year history into the leading Big Data Analytics Global brand. He helped build from scratch and establish Think Big practices in the United States in Mountain View, Salt Lake City, New York, and London.  

Most recently Matt has relocated to Tokyo, Japan to help launch Think Big Analytics Japan after his move to London 2 years ago to increase the company’s expansion across 40 countries covering Europe, Asia and Australia. He helped lead the creation of Think Big’s Solution Development business and played a major role in the establishment of Think Big’s Training Academy. He also managed and scaled Think Big's strategic partnerships with Amazon Web Services, Cloudera, Hortonworks and MapR.

Matt is Agile ScrumMaster and Product Owner certified and assisted in the development of Think Big’s innovative Velocity Delivery methodology, which integrates Data Engineering and Data Science in 6-week release cycles. He helped launch the Think Big US Solution Center, that links together onsite professional services resources with near-shore and off-shore engineering capabilities that allows Think Big to engage with customers in a round the clock capacity for world class development and support of Think Big customer solutions.

Matt’s Program and Practice Management experience includes leading some of the world’s largest deployments of Big Data technologies including Hadoop, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Hive, Tensorflow, Spark, and NoSQL with an array of High Tech Manufacturing, Automotive, Financial Services and Online Advertising use cases and clients. Matt holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Stanford University and is certified in Japanese from the JLPT N3 exam. When he is not working on Big Data, he enjoys a competitive round of pub trivia.
